The essay contests are open to all 7th and 8th grade students in Oklahoma, including those who are home schooled.

Contest judges will be appointed by the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women, and their decisions will be final.
 
All district winning essays will be judged as a group at the state level.  Identities of the students/sponsoring club shall be deleted on the photocopy of the handwritten essays for judging purposes at each level. Each OFRW Congressional District Director shall prepare, and provide to the State Essay Chairman, a computer disk containing the winning six essays from her district for printing in the essay anthology, or send  to her via e-mail.  A hard copy of each essay is required in addition to the electronic copies.
 
The first, second and third place winners at the state level and the three honorable mention recipients at the state level will be guests of the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women at their annual Essay Contest Luncheon in April 2008, location to be announced.

RULES
Essays must be:
·          Not more than 500 words in length, written on the above topic
·          Legibly handwritten or typewritten in size 12 font, double spaced, with pages numbered on the bottom center.
·          Author’s original work, except for quotes or facts.  Quotes and facts must be accurate.
·          Attached to a signed Official Essay Contest Entry Form (furnished by entrants’ teacher or available in August on this website).
·          Submitted with one original and two copies.
·          Essays must be received by Local Chairman by Dec. 4, 2007
 
In the upper right-hand corner of each page must be printed:
·          Author’s name, address, and telephone number with area code
·          Name of sponsoring Republican Women’s Local Unit
 
No entries will be returned.  It is recommended that each contestant keep an exact copy of his/her essay.
 
Contest Deadlines:
Local Contest -    Student’s essays to local units  by Dec 4, 2007.  
                              (Chairman to complete judging and notify winners 
                              by Jan 14, 2008.)
 
District Contest - Local winner essays to District Directors by Jan  
                              14, 2008.   
                              (Chairman to complete judging and 
                              notify winners by  Feb 15, 2008.)
 
State Contest –   District winners to state essay chair by February
                             15, 2008.  (State Chair to complete judging and 
                             notify winners by March 22, 2008.)
