First, Second, Third Honorable Mention--$50 Savings Bond each

The essay contests are open to all 7th and 8th grade students in Oklahoma, including those who are home

Join a Club!

Essays shall be:

  • Not more than 500 words in length, written on the above topic
  • Legibly handwritten
  • Original, except for brief quotes/facts.  Facts and quotes must be accurate.
  • Attached to a signed Official Essay Contest Entry Form
  • Submitted with one original and two copies.
  • Essays must be received by Local Chairman by December 4, 2002

In the upper right-hand corner of each page shall appear:
  • Author's name, address, area code and telephone number
  • Name of sponsoring local Republican Women's Club

Judges will be required to follow these guidelines:

  1. Does the essay direct the topic?
  2. Is the content well developed?  Does the author incorporate own point of view?  Is the thought process  clear? Are the facts used accurate?  Is there originality?
  3. Are grammar and spelling correct?  This includes punctuation and sentence structure.
  4. Were the rules of the contest followed?
  5. Is the conclusion clearly stated?

Contest judges will be appointed by the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women, and their decisions will be final.

All district winning essays will be judged as a group at the state level.  Identities of the students/sponsoring club shall be deleted on the photocopy of the handwritten essays for judging purposes at each level. Each OFRW Congressional District Director shall prepare, and provide to the State Essay Chairman, a computer disk containing the winning six essays from her district for printing in the essay anthology.

The first, second and third place winners at the state level and the three honorable mention recipients at the state level will be guests of the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women at their annual Essay Contest Luncheon April 26, 2003 in Midwest City, Oklahoma..
